High above the Eastern Sierra, Bennettville began as Bennett City near Tioga Hill in the Tioga Mining District. The settlement was promoted as a future center for high-country mining, but the harsh elevation and difficult mining conditions eventually caught up with it.
What remains
Only a small number of restored structures remain, surrounded by rugged high-country terrain and the remnants of the Great Sierra mining story. The site offers a very different experience from a preserved town with rows of buildings: Bennettville feels quiet, remote, and easy to miss if you are only passing through.

Bennettville is a reminder that a mining town does not need a full main street to leave a mark. The history is in the location, the surviving structures, and the difficult landscape that shaped the people who tried to build a life there.
