Lake Tahoe And Reno-Tahoe

  • Tahoe East Shore Trail – Incline Village to Sand Harbor: A paved lake-view route for casual riders, families, cruisers, and e-bikes. It is one of the easiest ways to get big Tahoe views without committing to a hard ride. Check parking and crowd levels in summer. Sources: Bike Tahoe, Tahoe Trail.
  • Tahoe Rim Trail – Tahoe Meadows to Tunnel Creek area: High-country singletrack for intermediate to advanced riders. Expect alpine scenery, bigger mileage, and rules that matter. Bikes are requested on even-numbered days on the Tahoe Meadows to Tunnel Creek section, and e-bike access is limited. Sources: Tahoe Rim Trail Association biking rules, TRTA trail conditions.
  • Marlette Flume Trail – Spooner Backcountry: A signature Tahoe ride with huge lake views and exposed singletrack. It is best for strong intermediate and advanced riders. Major 2026 Marlette Dam work affects access, so verify closures before planning. Sources: Nevada State Parks Spooner Lake, Marlette closure updates.
  • Corral, Sidewinder, and Armstrong Connector – South Lake Tahoe: A popular Tahoe mountain bike zone with flow trails, berms, rocks, and loop or shuttle options. Good for riders who want a purpose-built dirt ride close to town. Sources: Visit Lake Tahoe, Bike Tahoe Armstrong Connector, TAMBA trails.
  • Tahoe-Pyramid Trail – Hirschdale to Verdi: A rugged Truckee River canyon route for gravel, mountain, and cyclocross riders. It mixes dirt, gravel, boardwalk, and old-road riding with limited services. Sources: Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, National Park Service.

Truckee

  • Truckee River Legacy Trail: A relaxed paved route along the Truckee River for families, town cruisers, casual cyclists, and visitors pairing a ride with downtown Truckee. Sources: Town of Truckee, Visit Truckee-Tahoe.
  • Sawtooth Trail: A local-favorite singletrack loop through pine and open high-desert terrain with Truckee River Canyon views. A good first real Truckee dirt ride for intermediate riders. Source: Truckee Trails Foundation.
  • Commemorative Overland Emigrant Trail: Rolling cross-country singletrack with historic emigrant-route context, forest, meadows, and approachable mileage options. Portions are affected by 2026-2027 forest-health closures, so check current updates before riding. Sources: Truckee Chamber, Middle Truckee Forest Partnership updates.

Downieville And The Lost Sierra

  • Downieville Downhill: A serious mountain-bike pilgrimage route from Packer Saddle into Downieville. This is advanced, remote, technical, and shuttle-dependent, but it is one of the best-known rides in the Sierra. Sources: Downieville Classic, Discover Downieville.
  • Fiddle Creek and Halls Ranch: Strong intermediate to advanced Downieville-area options with climbing, forest riding, and Sierra Buttes views. Best for riders who want more than the marquee downhill. Sources: Discover Downieville, Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

Nevada City And Gold Country

  • Pioneer Trail – Highway 20 corridor: A shaded National Recreation Trail with easier lower sections and rougher upper terrain. Great for riders who want the Nevada City forest feel. Sources: Nevada City Chamber, National Recreation Trails, BONC.
  • Hoot Trail – Harmony Ridge: A short, friendly flow trail for newer riders, kids building confidence, and experienced riders looking for mellow laps. Sources: BONC, Go Nevada County biking.
